Oh No! The wife just called and said the drains backed up call the plumber! Well what if I told you, it is much easier then you may think it is. As long as you have a few essential tools and a little bit of what I like to call youtube university that drain can get unclogged, or that leaking pipe can get repaired. But I am sure you are wondering, what tools do I need to get that pipe replaced, or that drain unclogged? Well here is my list of 9 tools that you must have for plumbing, I will also include a link for each item to recommend my favorite as well as an easy way to order them online!


  1.  Pipe Wrench

  2. Adjustable Wrench

  3. Plumbers Tape or Teflon Tape

  4. Drain Snake

  5. Plunger

  6. Hack Saw

  7. Pipe Cutter (One Wheel Cutter)

  8. PVC Primer & PVC Cement

  9. Plumbers Putty


Having a well equipped toolbox is quite important, especially when it comes to plumbing, because whether you live in a new home or an older one, you can run into a multitude of different pipe types such as pvc, copper, cast iron, or steel. A plunger and a drain snake will help you unclog that drain or pipe, pipe wrench or an adjustable wrench will help you tighten up a leaking joint or coupling. A hack saw and a pipe cutter will help you cut out that old leaking piece of pipe, as well as cutting a new piece of pvc or copper with precision, in order to coupling in a new piece after the leaking piece is cut out. Teflon tape, plumbers putty, and PVC primer and cement will seal up threaded joints, as well as coupling joints as well. All in all, with these 9 items, you should be able to get you through your small plumbing projects while maintaining your budget.
